CSAN was established in 2003 by the Catholic Church in England and Wales through the merger of the Catholic Child Welfare Council, the Bishops' Conference Social Welfare Committee and the Catholic Agency for Social Concern.
CSAN is an official agency of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of
England and Wales (CBCEW) and also part of Caritas Internationalis Federation. CSAN has three staff and a board of Trustees. The primary
stakeholders are CBCEW, Caritas Europa, the Dioceses of England and
Wales, and the membership charities.
